How can we make Handsworth safer, cleaner & greener?

Posted on 8th February 2010 by

I attended a new partnership meeting that I have set up within Handsworth to look at improving community safety, cleanliness of the neighbourhood and green spaces.

It went well! There is real commitment from partners (police, wardens, fire service and police) to really get to grips with the issues in the neighbourhood. Currently Handsworth has above average litter scores compared to other neighbourhoods. We have started to map out the worst streets and will look at working with local residents to resolve.

We are also on a mission to address issues of litter & dumping caused by local shops or services…so watch this space for our New Hands on Handsworth Campaign. A eight year old girl from St Augustine School has just won the competition to design the logo for the campaign. Well done St Augustine School for entering the competition!

What do you think let us know? What improvements would you like to see?
