Breaking the Silence: Empowerment Day For Women

I 100% AGREE that: “Sexual assault and domestic violence are significant issues facing women today in the West Midlands. Violence against women and girls is a worldwide pandemic – approximately one out of every three women worldwide will be beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Also statistics show that 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused before they turn 18.”

This sell-out show is a hilarious, empowering and deeply moving play which openly addresses taboo issues such as religion, sexual health, sexual abuse and domestic violence. These subjects are rarely discussed within the community and as a result women often suffer in silence.

ICU’s groundbreaking Empowerment Day for Women takes place on Thursday 25th October, 2012 at the Arena Theatre, Wolverhampton. Drawing on themes from the play and a wide range of art forms, such as Creative writing, Visual Art and Drama, the day will include a Live performance, workshops and discussion. This event is priced at only £20 and open to women of all backgrounds.

Tonya and her team will provide a safe space to help women develop effective strategies to create positive change and take back control of their lives.   The day will explore issues such as:

  • The relationships we have with ourselves and with others.
  • How culture impacts on sexual and domestic abuse
  • Breaking the cycle of abuse.
  • How to prevent, recognise and react responsibly to the reality of abuse.

So I urge all you women out there to attend this inspirational event, and together let’s overcome this Worldwide panademic.
